About Fraumünster
The Fraumünster, at Münsterhof 2, was founded in 853 by King Louis the German as a convent for women of Europe’s aristocracy; its abbess had the right to mint Zurich’s coins into the 13th century. The chancel holds Marc Chagall’s five-part cycle of windows and the south transept his rose window; the north transept window is by Augusto Giacometti, and the cloister has frescoes by Paul Bodmer. March to October, Monday to Saturday 10:00–18:00; November to February until 17:00.
