About St. Moritz and the Engadin: the back story

St. Moritz lies at 1,856 metres above sea level, in its own words, on its lake in the Upper Engadin, with Lake Silvaplana beyond. From Zurich the train takes about three hours, changing at Chur for the Rhaetian Railway over the Albula line, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site with the Bernina line.

Getting there

By SBB to Chur, then the Rhaetian Railway to St. Moritz; about three hours from Zürich HB.

The railways

The Glacier Express and the Bernina Express run from here; see ULTIMATE Rail Journeys.

Our advice: make it an overnight trip: three hours each way is too much for a day.
